POSITION SUMMARY
The Community College of Aurora is looking for innovative, inclusive, and engaging part-time instructors to teach Translation and Interpretation (TRI) classes through dynamic and active learning strategies. CCA is committed to quality instruction and maintains high academic standards as well as a strong commitment to the success of our students. The Translation and Interpretation program exemplifies the highest commitment to the success and achievement of our students through the Inclusive Excellence framework, and we do this through departmental and college-wide collaborations and professional development.



DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach a variety of Translation and Interpretation courses, including consecutive and simultaneous interpretation
  • Participate in development and implementation of course and program assessment
  • Be knowledgeable about pedagogy, methods, retention, inclusion, and assessment of outcomes (or be available and willing to receive training in these areas)
  • Before the first day of class, provide the Faculty Lead as well as department assistant with a copy of the course syllabus and handouts of required/graded assignments
  • At the first-class meeting, provide students with a syllabus for the course that includes all components of the course model syllabus and the competencies established in the Colorado Common Course Numbering System
  • Conduct student evaluations of instruction in accordance with established policies and procedures at the end of the semester
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students and submit no-shows, grades, and required records to the college via Banner by the required deadlines
  • Attend required meetings as called by the Faculty Lead, Department Chair, Dean, or Vice President of Academic Success
  • Complete the DesireToLearn (D2L) training and New Faculty Orientation
  • Participate in coaching/mentoring and assessment initiatives established by Department Chair and/or Faculty Lead
  • Understand and uphold the values of the college while abiding by all relevant college and CCCS and SBCCOE policies and procedures.




REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a Masters, Bachelors, or Associate's degree in a field related to translation and interpretation (translation and interpretation, language, linguistics or applied linguistics)
  • Hold a state or national industry certification in the area of interpretation
  • 2,000 hours (if holding a Bachelor's degree or higher in the field or related area) or 4,000 (if holding an Associate's degree) of verifiable employment in translation and interpretation (non-teaching) within the last 7 years. Types of verification accepted: signed letters from employers stating employment dates and duties, income statements, or a Schedule C from Income Tax forms.
  • Excellent soft skills and practices
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn technologies quickly
  • Availability to teach evening classes in any modality

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience teaching translation and interpretation
  • Previous experience in curriculum development for courses or professional development opportunities
  • Extensive connections with industry stakeholders in Colorado
  • Candidates with face-to-face and online experience teaching and engaging students in the classroom

Salary: Beginning Fall 2024, the starting rate will be $1149.00 per credit hour taught.
